This year, along with 19 other artists, I’ve been an ArtPop Street Gallery artist! The experience has been thrilling. Not only have I been able to see my work on a billboard in multiple locations around Charlotte, but I’ve met amazing people in the vibrant and varied artist community within the city.
ArtPop's mission is to promote local artists' work and make art accessible to communities through available media space. The Founder of the project, Wendy Hickey, along with the amazing ArtPop board of directors and volunteers, works tirelessly to share local art broadly in our community, and has expanded the ArtPop program to 14 cities across the United States.
I submitted Georgette, one of my mixed media faces, and have loved seeing her blue eyes looking down at me. I never imagined I’d be able to see my work on such a large scale.
Through this process, I've connected with artists that have inspired me to push myself and keep creating. I've met Emily T. Andress, Diane Pike, Kerry Griffin, and Donna Downey, to name a few. These women are making really unique and beautiful work and I'm so glad to have been exposed to them.
